NE Golf Hall of Fame meeting: Friday, July 21, 2023, Hillcrest CC
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY PRESIDENT JANE POHLMAN AT 10:05 AM
In Attendance: Jane Pohlman, Vergil Flodman, Susan Marchese, Troy Lorenz (via phone), Dan Bahensky, Maggie Peters, Hap Gay, Charlie Borner, Jim White, Dick Beechner, and Allan McClure
Approval of May 19, 2023 meeting: Motion made by Dan B, seconded by Susan M, unanimously passed
Financial Report by Dick Beechner. Mr. Beechner presented his report and included a one-page document of th Motion for approval made by Hap G, seconded by Allan M, passed unanimously
Allan McClure discussed the VanGuard Investment. Keeping money in that account for now.
Vote on election of officers and new terms for Dan Bahensky and Vergil Flodman. Replacement for Paul Mohr. Jane made motion to elect Dan and Vergil for another 3 year term. Seconded by Hap G, unanimously passed. Mark Plateck, Pres of Panhandle and will look for Paul Mohr replacement. Max Hadenfeldt, pro at Scottsbluff CC may be a possibility. Presented by Dick Beechner
Hap Gay-Update on website. Bring Herb Davis winners into the corresponding class of the Hall of Fame members. Images of Herb Davis winners will also be moved to the corresponding year with the Hall of Fame members.
Discussion of Herb Davis III and Jim Abel. Jane presented idea of giving $5000 to scholarship every other year. That we were consolidating Herb Davis into Hall of Fame. Herb Davis III has not returned Jane’s calls after initial meeting regarding the scholarship but did agree to moving HD winners to H of F. Motion made to eliminate the Herb Davis award and merge all Herb Davis winners into H of F. Hap moved, Charlie B seconded: 10 yes, one no; motion approved.
Jane had 2 discussions with Jim Abel regarding moving H of F plaques to new remodel at Quarry Oaks. Mr. Abel indicated that there was no room for them in their design.
Discussion then moved to what categories would qualify someone to be considered for election into the H of F. Hap Gay had researched other state Hall of Fames and presented 7 categories for Board consideration: Player; Teacher; Administrator; Course Architecture; Superintendent; Media coverage; and Contributions to the game. Craig Ames was going to do some leg work on refining categories.
Nominations for 2023 H of F discussion:
Pat Duffy, Mike Krumland, Charlie Hadwick, Nate Lashley, Ryan Vermeer, Jeff Klein, Randy Jensen, Robin Krapfl, Steve Friesen, John Hurley, Dick Beechner, Heidi Stark, Ryan Nietfeldt, Chris Thomson, David Maurstad. Add Tony Pesavento and Bob Hillis back into mix.
Susan Marchese suggested we wait until fall to vote. Discussion centered around how many nominees will be presented by Nominating committee. To be elected, nominee must win 2/3 vote by Board wo win election to membership into Hall of Fame. Selection Committee will meet immediately after this meeting is adjourned.
Old Business: Hall of Fame scholarship discussion. As previously mentioned, Jane met with Herb Davis III and he had not returned her follow up calls regarding the scholarship idea.
New Business: Next meeting scheduled for Friday, September 29th, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Hillcrest
