Harold Glissmann
When Harold Glissmann was a youngster, his family's farm in Omaha, if you
can imagine a farm at 90th and Center - was turned Into the Valley View Golf Course.
After working there for several years, Harold managed the Dundee Golf Course
In Omaha's Memorial Park and later the Indian Hills course at 84th and Dodge.
Neither exists today.
During World War II he left golf to work at the ordinance plant in Mead. Then,
for 10 years, Harold was the superintendent of grounds at Boys Town.
After leaving Boys Town he went back to manage the Indian Hills course until
it closed. Glissmann then started constructing golf courses. He built and
operated both the Cedar Hills and Miracle Hill courses to Omaha.
During that same span of time, he was responsible for the construction of three
courses in Lincoln -- Holmes Park, the Jim Ager Junior Course and the first nine
at The Knolls. He also built the Seward Country Club, the Maple Village course
in Omaha and the course in Central City among many other projects.
Glissmann, the first recipient of the Dr. Herbert H. Davis Memorial Award.
moved to Syracuse, NE. a few years after the death of his wife Anna to be
nearer his daughter, Jody Glissmann Applegate.
