Bruce Gilliland

Honored in 2014

Bruce Gilliland has enriched the golfing community around Kimball, Nebraska, for more than 50 years while joining his wife, Nebraska Golt Hall of Famer Wilma Gilliland, as longtime contributors to women's amateur golf nationally.

He has been director of golf at Kimball's Four Winds Golf Course, a course he designed, since construction began in 1966. He oversaw the expansion of the course from nine to 18 holes in the 1990s. From 1972 to 1993 he volunteered as the hand-drawn scoreboard keeper for the Women’s Amateur Public Championship.

Born in Collinsville, Oklahoma, he graduated from Collinsville High in 1935 and earned a degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State). He moved to Kimbåll to Open Plains Construction Company.

He served the Nebraska State Sand Greens Golf Association as a officer (he was state runner-up one year), co-founded the Panhandle Golf Association and is a lifetime member of the Nebraska Golf Association.   

He was a founding member of the Kimball Rotary Club, a member of the Kimball Country Club since 1951 and has been on the Kimball City and County Park and Recreation Board since 1966.
