Bobbie Hopp
Honored in 2012
Bobbie Hopp was a long-time high school coach and president of the Nebraska Women’s Amateur Golf Association, who served on the USGA Regional Affairs Committee from 2001 until her death in 2012.
Born in Charleston, SC, while her father Nebraska Golf Hall of Famer, Wally Popp was stationed there during World War II. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1963 and Kearney State College in 1967. She coached girls’ golf for 29 years at Fremont High where she was also the girls’ basketball coach for many years and received the Nebraska Coaches Association Friends of High School Sports Award in 2006.
Her involvement with the NWAGA began in 2001 when she was selected as the Chair of the nominations committee. She served as Tournament Director and Vice-President prior to her term from 2005 to 2007 as President and was instrumental in achieving tax-exempt status for the association in 2010. She also was the states Womens Trans-National representative.
Bobbie’s playing record included 9 club championships. She retired the city championship trophies in Hastings and Fremont and was runner-up in the 2006 NWAGA Seniors Championship.
