Steve Hogan

Honored in 2003

Steve Hogan is the founder of Hogan's Junior Golf Heroes, a nationally recognized youth golf program that in 2002 became part of the First Tee program. Hogan's Heroes annually serves more than 600 youths from throughout Omaha.

Hogan was the first African-American member of the Nebraska Section of the PGA. He is the head professional at the City of Omaha's Miller Park par-3 course, the home base for Hogan's heroes. Spurred to find a solution to course vandalism, Hogan developed the concept for his youth program.

The program's mission since its founding in 1990 is to introduce economically disadvantaged youth to the game of golf and help them learn valuable life skills. They are exposed to all facets of golf, including club repair and caddying. The course opened a short-game practice facility in 2002.

In 2000, Hogan's Heroes was the largest grant recipient from the USGA. He has been featured on ESPN and the Golf Channel. In 2002, he received the Nebraska PGA's Junior Golf Leader award.
