Jerry Treadway

Jerry Treadway promoted golf in his home area of central Nebraska through his service to Kearney Country Club and the Nebraska State. Senior Golf Association. He started playing golf in 1930 at Grandview in Kearney. By 1937, the course was renamed Kearney Country Club, he was club president and inaugurated a state sand greens championship. In 1946, he brought the Nebraska Open away from Omaha or Lincoln for the first time after the course converted to grass greens. In 1960, he sold his office supply business to manage the country club. He was one of the first to hold Texas scrambles in the state, learning the format from his winters in southern Texas, and formed the city's golf association and city open tournament He was a charter board member for the Nebraska State Seniors and later served as president. He helped form the Central Nebraska Senior Golf Association in 1984 at age 78. Since Treadway's death in 1987, the Central Seniors call their annual two-day tournament the Jerry Treadway Memorial.
