Dottie Bowman

Dottie Bowman was the first secretary, a past president and former executive secretary of the. Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association. She also won the NWAGA Seniors Championship in 1986 and 21 Kearney County Club women's titles in a 24-year period.

A native of Arnold, Neb., she didn't play golf until she was 35 and living In Fremont with her husband, Chet (who passed away in 2003), and their two children. The Bowmans moved to Kearney in 1965 and she became immediately active in the Central Nebraska Women's Golf Association. In 1973, the NWAGA was organized, and she became its first secretary. She was president from 1975 to 1977 and executive secretary from 1983 to 1985.

Besides her 1986 seniors crown, she was a top-10 finisher eight times in 10 years and dominated the Central Nebraska Women's Open for more than a decade. She has three holes in one.

Bowman was the first woman to serve on the Kearney Country Club board and recently was its secretary-treasurer. She started the club's junior program in 1986. She recently retired after 30 years on the City of Kearney Planning Commission and served on the University of Nebraska Foundation's board of trustees.
