David Maurstad

David Maurstad was a stalwart in Nebraska amateur golf in the 1980s and 1990s before entering public service as Nebraska lieutenant governor and continuing as a federal administrator.

David was the Nebraska Amateur of the Year in 1981, when he won the Nebraska Amateur championship in a record 10-hole playoff. He tied for second in his title defense the following year, leading to a run of five consecutive top-five finishes in the Nebraska Amateur and eight over 16 years.

In 1992, he achieved the “Silver Sweep” of second-place finished in the Nebraska Amateur and the Nebraska Match Play.

He played in U.S. Mid-Amateurs in 1981 and 1993 and advanced to U.S. Open sectional qualifying in 1984. He reached the round of 32 at the 1983 Trans-Mississippi after winning an 11-for-1 playoff and tied for 23rd at the 1982 Sunnehanna Amateur.

David was a three-sport athlete at Beatrice High School and played two years on the Platte College team that was 12th in the national junior college championship his sophomore year. He entered the PGA apprentice program and worked one year at Beatrice Country Club, his home course, and three at the Country Club of Lincoln before one year as head pro at Westward Ho in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He served on the USGA Sectional Affairs Committee from 2000 to 2003.
